The most common worry about a used premium vehicle: "isn't it too old?" The answer from experience: a premium vehicle on a heavy chassis is a platform, not an appliance. A vehicle its owner has developed methodically for ten years now does things the new generation is only just catching up with.
The single most important thing on an older vehicle. Factory dampers are sized for a van, not a six-tonne motorhome with a high centre of gravity, hence the sway and sensitivity to crosswinds. Custom Marquart dampers cut body roll by an estimated half; two-stage Dinitrol protection shields the costly hydraulic legs from winter salt. A ten-year-old chassis in this condition is an asset, not a risk.

After ten years a gel battery loses much of its capacity and can't keep up in the mountains in winter. Moving to 400 Ah LiFePO₄, 780 Wp of solar and a stronger 210 A alternator makes the vehicle genuinely self-sufficient: fridge, pump, air-conditioning and evening lighting with no need to watch for a hook-up.

A single roof unit can't cool an eight-metre vehicle along its whole length. A second inverter unit over the front bed creates two independent zones and quiet night-time cooling. How many units make sense for you is worked out by our air-conditioning calculator.

The original pump tends to be disruptively loud and the pressure fluctuates. A pump with smooth control by demand (Lilie IQflow) is almost inaudible, a decisive difference in a quiet vehicle at night. The kind of detail that on a premium vehicle separates "nearly good" from "finished".

The original headlights of a ten-year-old vehicle aren't enough for modern night driving. HELLA Bi-LED modules bring the intensity and colour of the light close to today's matrix LED, but fitting is not plug & play (adapters, relays, resolving BCM faults). Exactly the type of work where experience pays off.

A quality body holds up even after ten years. The aim, therefore, isn't to tear things out but to raise comfort deliberately: quietness, lighting, smart storage, connectivity, while keeping the character of the vehicle. Every change should have a practical point.

We'll go through the condition of a specific vehicle with you, work out what makes sense to sort out (and for how much), and estimate how far a ten-year-old vehicle can be taken. An older vehicle in excellent condition with well-judged upgrades is often a smarter buy than a new one. The full technical log of this vehicle, dozens of articles and procedures, is at phoenix7.cz.
